Shared Housing

Would you like to help a person in need of a safe place to call home?  Do you need help around the house or assistance to make ends meet?

The CSA offers three separate housing programs which match homeowners and those in need of affordable housing through mutual exchange of money, services or personal care for the homeowner.

CSA has established and maintains high-quality procedures that will lead to lasting and
satisfying matches. We begin by suggesting one of three arrangements for the home owner and the renter to choose from:

  • Shared Housing: the renter pays $450 per month plus utilities.  The homeowner provides a bedroom and a shared common space.  The renter may negotiate a lower rent in exchange of limited assistance.  For example, the renter may be asked to cook, clean or drive.
  • Even Exchange: The renter provides 20 hours, 5 days a week of household service.  The homeowner provides a bedroom and shared common space.  No money is exchanged between the renter and the homeowner.
  • Live-in: The renter provides 24 hours, 5 days a week of personal care.  The homeowner provides bedroom, shared common space, room/board and a compensation of $1,000 to $1,200 per month.

These arrangements are just recommendations.  We will work with you to make sure that an arrangement that works well with all parties is negotiated. You can make a true difference in the life of a person by participating in one of our shared programs.

Success Story

A client was looking for a person to share his home as an even exchange.  His only requirement was that they be able to cook him liver and onions once a week! After introducing him to a number of prospects, who fixed him livers and onions as part of the meet and greet, he found a perfect match.  His new tenant was a man that he had actually known when they were both younger and working in a casino in Las Vegas.  They now not only enjoy the savory meal once a week, but also outings to the local casinos and playing cards together.
