2012 Annual Conference on Human Trafficking

On April 16th, Executive Director Estela De Los Rios attended the 2012 annual Conference on Human Trafficking in McAllen, Texas.  Experts from around the world joined together at this conference to illuminate the tragedies of human trafficking and to share ideas about how to end slavery. Ms.  De Los Rios delivered a presentation about the growing problem of labor trafficking.

FAIR HOUSING MONTH PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, April marks the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which sought to eliminate discrimination in housing opportunities and to affirmatively further housing choices for all Americans; and WHEREAS, the ongoing struggle for dignity and housing opportunity for all is not the exclusive province of the Federal government; and WHEREAS, vigorous local efforts to combat discrimination can be as effective, if not more so, than Federal efforts; and WHEREAS, illegal barriers to equal opportunity in housing, no matter how subtle, diminish the rights of all; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in the pursuit of the shared goal and responsibility of providing equal housing  opportunities for all men and women,   CSA San Diego County, does hereby join in the national celebration by proclaiming APRIL, 2012 as FAIR HOUSING MONTH and encourages all agencies, institutions and individuals, public and private, in San Diego to abide by the letter and the spirit of the Fair Housing law.

La Mesa Rotary Club Presentation

Executive Director Estela De Los Rios was an invited speaker at the La Mesa Rotary club’s March meeting. Her talk focused on the growing but largely invisible problem of human trafficking in the San Diego region, one of CSA’s core focus areas. With her presentation, Ms. De Los Rios continues to bring awareness to the challenge of assisting victims, current legislation and proposed legislation, and the possibility of justice for victims.
